THE WORKSHOP
Melodrama invites us into a world of heightened emotion, bold physicality, and radiant theatricality - a form where the body speaks in vivid poetry and the play becomes unapologetically grand. In this workshop, we’ll dive into the spirit and practice of nineteenth-century French Melodrama, warming up through ensemble play before exploring angles, the language of gesture, stock characters and stories, and the special movement qualities of Melodrama. We’ll finish with shared improvisations and Viewpoints-style scores, opening fresh possibilities inspired by the magnificent and inimitable world of Melodrama. For performers of all backgrounds
THE GUEST ARTIST
Rew is a Bristol-based theatre-maker and teacher who builds playful connection and a sense of shared adventure in his workshops, starting from the body and the joy of playing together. As an actor he's worked with a host of award-winning companies, including NIE, Bristol Old Vic and Leeds Playhouse. He taught on Bath Spa University’s BA Acting course from 2014–24 and is currently performing as The Storyteller in Theatre Porto’s Twelve Yuletide Yarns.
