THE WORKSHOP

What happens - and what might we do as performers - in the moment the audience stops loving us?

Playing With The Flop workshop is a buoyant, playful and gently challenging exploration of “the flop”... that deliciously uncomfortable moment when things stop working. Rather than something to avoid, we’ll treat the flop as an invitation for greater adventurousness in play... a time to take risks (whilst remaining utterly sensitive!)... and leading to an even more expansive route to creative possibilities.

Through movement, games, and improvisation, we’ll actively seek out "failure" and "the flop" and discover how we - as performers - can respond with openness, laser-sharp sensitivity and unbounded imagination and play. Along the way, we’ll explore shifting rhythm, the dynamics of “Major” and “Minor” and some fundamentals of Clown - all of which help us stay alive to the audience, and 100% in the moment.

It'll be about flirting with the edge: being responsive, present, and ever-eager to play more whole-heartedly when things get all wobbly.

Fun, challenging, and supportive - for performers of all backgrounds.

THE GUEST ARTIST

Rew Lowe is returning to Bath's Creative Playground for another workshop!

Rew is a Bristol-based theatre-maker and teacher who builds playful connection and a sense of shared adventure in his workshops, starting from the body and the joy of playing together. As an actor he’s worked with a host of award-winning companies, including NIE, Bristol Old Vic and Leeds Playhouse. He taught on Bath Spa University’s BA Acting course from 2014-24.
